3-D Large Format systems are fairly new. Cinema Development built its first 3-D system in 2001. The 3-D system consists of two identical projectors side by side. Each projector has its own film reel. 3-D systems can not be built for dome theaters.
The Cinema Development Company 3-D system is more robust than competitive IMAX 3-D system. With our system, should one projector develop a problem, the other projector can still be used to show normal (2-D) large format films. By contrast, IMAX's Upper Level 3-D system does not have this capability, when one unit fails, the whole IMAX system becomes inoperable.

There are two sizes available for the 3-D systems: 8/70 and 15/70. The 8/70 systems are less expensive than the 15/70 systems. The 15/70 systems can play more films, though at this time there aren't that many 3-D films to choose from.
There are two light sources you can use with a 2-D system: 7 kilowatts and 15 kilowatts (kw). The 7 kilowatt light source is used for smaller theaters, the 15 kilowatt light can be used with the biggest theaters.
3-D Large Format projectors offer an experience which is simply unavailable from any other medium today. 3-D systems are more expensive than 2-D systems but if you want to amaze your audience, 3-D is the way to go.
